Yo Tumblr followers! All … more than one of you. I gots a juicy update for ya.
I just moved to San Francisco and am currently working at Industrial Light & Magic on Guillermo Del Toro’s next movie, Pacific Rim as an Animation Assistant!! I am INSANELY excited about this opportunity and I wake up every day excited to go to work. It’s pretty amazing.
Also, I used to use this tumblr as my main webpage, but changed that a while ago without annoucing that over here, as I am wont to do. You can check that out over at www.animatordavelogan.com. I’ll continue to sporadically post sketches and whatnot here, but business Dave is going to hang out over there.
I just completed the Animation Mentor Creatures Masterclass! Couldn’t have been happier with the program, I highly recommend it if you’re interested in creature animation.
I have a few shots from the class that still need a good amount of love and polish, but they should start popping up in the reel in the coming weeks.
Awesome 6 minute tutorial on making blinks with appeal from AnimSchool.
Really interesting documentary about the effects of the democratization of media production via cheap, high quality software and hardware.
REAL ONION SKINNING IN MAYA! None of that 3d motion path noise, true onion skinning! This looks almost exactly what I’ve wanted in Maya since I started using it. Hoping to get on the beta test, but either way this plugin looks well worth the $29 pricetag.
NEW YEAR NEW REEL!! Tweaked a few shots, added a couple more form the very awesome creature animation courses I’m taking from Animation Mentor.
Hope ya dig!
With Good Vibes’ season finale last might it seemed appropriate to post this. At the end of my animation team’s contract back in June I bought a most excellent beer, La Fin du Monde (“the end of the world”, geddit?) for each one of my teammates as a farewell gift.
With a little ingenuity and a lot of tape I pasted Mondo’s head over the logo and changed the name to “La fin du Mondo” (the end of Mondo, geddit?).
Yes, I am a geek.
— Good Vibes
Woah, I was just looking through tumblr’s “Good Vibes” tags and found this Portuguese translation of a shot I animated. Not much to say to that other than neat!
Neat!
